I recently posted an article on my website (briansussman.com) with an appeal to the Christians who despise Donald Trump and refuse to vote for him. Apparently, there are many. In fact, while addressing the Faith and Freedom Convention in June, Trump stated, “The evangelicals and the Christians, they don’t vote as much as they should. I don’t know if you know that. They go to church every Sunday, but they don’t vote.”
While I’m not sure what the exact percentage of Christians who foolishly do not exercise their right to vote may be, I do know there are many Christians who will not be voting for former President Trump because, quite frankly, they despise him.
Even more stupidly, a significant percentage of these people will instead vote for Kamala Harris.
Christians must be able to do two important things at the same time: condemn the sin and theological errors of those they admire while also acknowledging the valuable contributions those individuals might have made. We cannot be satisfied with simply doing one or the other. We must deal honestly with the sins and shortcomings of our American heroes. After all, we’re not voting for a pastor, we are voting for both the Commander in Chief of the United States Armed Forces as well as the CEO of the largest enterprise in America.
Maybe it’s Trump’s personality, or his lifestyle, or maybe it’s the unrelenting propaganda campaign to smear him, leading some Christians to piously exclaim, “I could never vote for such a man!”
But allow me to ask that same person a few questions. Weren’t you pleased when Donald Trump proved himself to be the most pro-life President in history and actually became the first POTUS to speak at the annual March for Life in Washington, DC?
Were you not pleased when Trump boldly acknowledged that the capital of Israel is Jerusalem?
How about the fact that he had more Christians in key positions in his administration than any President before him? Did you know while in the White House he looked the President of Nigeria (a Muslim) in the eyes and asked him, “Why are you killing Christians?” Or did you even know that Christians are being martyred in that country daily?
“Yeah. But did you see the ad where Trump was selling Bibles. Disgusting.”
I did see that, and it was a bit weird. But thank God he wasn’t selling The Art of Happiness by Dalai Lama. Or the Koran.
But back to the questions. Did you appreciate the way he began finally getting the U.S. out of the otherwise endless war in Afghanistan? And did you notice how Biden totally screwed up the final withdrawal of our troops and ended up giving Bagram Air Base to the Taliban (and China and Iran), complete with equipment and arms worth billions of dollars?
In my opinion, Christians have a moral obligation to not just vote, but vote for Donald Trump. Sitting this one out is delusional. Kamala Harris’s platform is rooted in sin: abortion on demand (and if you read the fine print that includes infanticide), promotion of the LGTBQ++ agenda (which ruins lives and further breaks down the family), welfare for all (which is communism), and free healthcare for all (which will dismantle the health care system as we know it).
Additionally, the bad actors in this world—Putin, Xi, Un, and Khamenei—would have NO respect for a compromising career politician like Kamala. However, they will, and do, respect Donald J. Trump because they fear his unyielding determination to Make America Great Again.
