Democrat Presidential Candidate Doubts Trump Believes in God–What’s the Evidence Say?

Presidential candidate and South Bend Mayor Pete Buttigieg said, during an interview with USA Today, that it is hard to look at the actions of President Donald Trump and think he believes in God.

“I’m reluctant to comment on another person’s faith, but I would say it is hard to look at this president’s actions and believe that they’re the actions of somebody who believes in God,” Buttigieg said.

“I just don’t understand how you can be as worshipful of your own self as he is and be prepared to humble yourself before God. I’ve never seen him humble himself before anyone. And the exaltation of yourself, especially a self that’s about wealth and power, could not be more at odds with at least my understanding of the teachings of the Christian faith,” he added.

Wow. Quite self-righteous of you, Mayor Buttigieg. Seems you’re able to peer into the President’s heart with the very eyes of the Messiah.

Listen, I don’t know where Donald Trump personally is with God.  However I can say this, look at the people who are well-known as authentic followers of Jesus serving, or having served, in Trump’s White House:

Mike Pence, Mike Pompeo, Betsy Devos, Ben Carson, Jeff Sessions, Nikki Haley, (as well as close consultants, Jay Sekulow, Steve Moore, and Art Laffer), just to name a few that I am aware of.

Also look at what Mr. Trump has done (and is criticized for by the Left for): acknowledgement of Jerusalem as the capitol of Israel, and several key moves to support the pro-life movement (including defunding Planned Parenthood).

Buttigieg also criticized conservatives for  “saying so much about what Christ said so little about,”  like how the issue of abortion has become a litmus test.

Well, Buttigieg, given that “Christ” is the same word for “Messiah,” and Messiah is God, let me just quote Him directly:

“Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, before you were born I set you apart.” (Jeremiah 1:5)

For You created my inmost being; You knit me together in my mother’s womb…Your eyes saw my unformed body. All the days ordained for me were written in Your book before one of them came to be. (Psalm 139:13,16)

“Your hands shaped me and made me . . . Did You not clothe me with skin and flesh and knit me together with bones and sinews? You gave me life.” (Job 10:8–12)

This is what the Lord says—He who made you, who formed you in the womb. (Isaiah 44:2)

The majority of born-again Christians (and born-again Jewish guys like you, Brian) support the Trump Administration, Some of them might think he’s a bit of a jerk at times, but given some of the evidence you’ve provided, his heart is in the right place and he’s not letting down that part of his base.

I hope he’s surrendering to Jesus. He certainly is surrounded by solid believers.

    Press on, brother!
