Race, Ignorance, Irony: Whoopi (Johnson) Goldberg

Whoopi Goldberg is a TV and comedy superstar who, in my opinion, has allowed arrogance to consume her soul. Her recent reckless statement about Jewish people seems to prove it.  Webster’s defines arrogance as an “offensive display of superiority or self-importance; overbearing pride.”

Sounds like Whoopi.

The controversy began when, on Monday’s broadcast of “The View,” Whoopi said, “the Holocaust isn’t about race… it’s about man’s inhumanity to man.”

Goldberg made her original comments during a discussion on the show Monday about a Tennessee school board’s banning of “Maus,” a Pulitzer Prize-winning graphic novel about the Nazi death camps during World War II.

ABC has given her a tepid slap on the hand and a measly two-week suspension for her remarks. Shame on ABC.  It would seem this lady should be fired from hosting “The View.”  Conservatives have been canceled for much less.

Harry Potter author J.K. Rowling was canceled on a number of levels for expressing opinions that were seen as transphobic; actress Gina Carano was fired by Disney for expressing conservative opinions on social media; and Guardians of the Galaxy star Chris Pratt, for attending an evangelical church and for suspicion of supporting former president Donald Trump.

The truth is, during WWII Hitler’s Nazi Party considered Jews untermensch, meaning sub-human. The Party held dear  a racist ideology that regarded Jews as “parasitic vermin” worthy only of eradication, the Nazis implemented genocide on an unprecedented scale. Hitler and the Nazis drew upon the ideas of the German social Darwinists of the late 19th century. Like the social Darwinists before them, the Nazis believed that human beings could be classified collectively as “races,” with each race bearing distinctive characteristics that had been passed on genetically since the first appearance of humans in prehistoric times. These inherited characteristics related not only to outward appearance and physical structure, but also shaped internal mental life, ways of thinking, creative and organizational abilities, intelligence, taste and appreciation of culture, physical strength, and military prowess.

Could it be that Whoopi’s embracement of Critical Race Theory has allowed her to believe that only people of color are subject to racism?  I think so.

And now for the kicker.  Whoopi Goldberg’s real name is Caryn Elaine Johnson.

It’s interesting that her creative stage name includes a stereotypical Jewish surname. It was actually a hilarious move by then Caryn Johnson, because a large percentage of some of the greatest comics of all time are indeed Jewish. Black gal raised in a housing project with a Jewish last name–go figure!

About her stage surname, she claimed in 2011, “My mother did not name me Whoopi, but Goldberg is my name—it’s part of my family, part of my heritage, just like being black”, and “I just know I am Jewish. I practice nothing. I don’t go to temple, but I do remember the holidays.”[16] She has stated that “people would say ‘Come on, are you Jewish?’ And I always say ‘Would you ask me that if I was white? I bet not.”

Add to arrogance, fantasy. Caryn Elaine Johnson has no known Jewish blood. How she came up with that, “I just know I’m Jewish” thing is bizarre.

I think I’m qualified to speak up on this.

There are two types of Jews. Those with such a genetic component in their blood, or those who have converted to the Hebraic religion. Whoopi is neither.

And by the way, Whoopi,  Jewish people occasionally do ask that those who have traditional Jewish last names, “Are you Jewish?” I’ve asked the question, and received it as well.

An apology is a start, Whoopi. But really you need to take a step back an re-evaluate your heart condition. You need an infusion of new blood; the blood of Jesus the Jewish Messiah.

Would you have anything to say about Amnesty International’s recent report about the terrible crimes that have been and are being committed by Israel against Palestine?

    • Brian Sussman says

Amnesty International has been making such false claims for many years.

But let’s talk about the so-called “Palestinians” for a moment. They have children’s TV shows broadcast on official Palestinian television that have aired statements calling Jews and Israelis “monkeys” and “the most evil of creations.” A 2020 study of Palestinian textbooks by the EU found a picture of Palestinians hitting Israeli soldiers with slingshots to describe Newton’s law of motion.

The Arabs, the Jews’ semitic cousins, have been at war with Jewish people since the early chapters of the book of Genesis.

      Best regards,

      Brian
