The following is a continuation of the previous post (written by David Theroux) regarding a man I truly admire, Phil Robertson, patriarch of the “Duck Dynasty” family.
Phil Robertson himself is certainly no lightweight. The Los Angeles Times has called him “a man of legendary individuality, who once passed up an opportunity to sign with the NFL because it might interfere with his hunting.” One of seven children raised in a log cabin in northern Louisiana with no electricity, bathtub, or toilet, Robertson grew up in a poor family living off garden fruits and vegetables; deer, squirrels, fish, and other animals that they hunted and fished; and the pigs, chickens, and cattle that they raised. Nevertheless, in high school he became All-State in football, baseball, and track and received a football scholarship to Louisiana Tech University. At Tech, later football legend Terry Bradshaw was at the time benched as second-string to Robertson, who was star quarterback. And although Robertson chose to quit football in college for the freedom to hunt during duck season, he went on to receive a master’s degree in education, taught school, and became a commercial fisherman. In 1972, the young enterprising Robertson patented his first duck call and created the Duck Commander Company, which has been leveraged into today’s vast fortune and cultural phenomenon that includes Duck Dynasty. His autobiographyHappy, Happy, Happy became a number one New York Times bestseller, and his new book for 2014, Phil-osophy, will share his philosophy of life, as he outlined in an interview before the release of his autobiography…

Good grief. We all got past the idiotic Duck Dynasty controversy a month ago. Phil Robertson showed off his closeted sexual tension, most of America yawned and said acknowledged he has the right to say whatever fraction of a thought goes through his head, and we moved on. The new season of Duck Dynasty came on the air, and its ratings plummeted. Game over. Were you on a long vacation or something?
Phil’s “closeted sexual tension” has never been in the closet. He’s been openly declaring what God has to say about sexual relationships for years.
Yeah. You have him nailed. He’s actually a closet homosexual. That’s Phil.
Do you have any idea what a joke you are? Any time someone with views 180 degrees from your own expresses his opinion, he’s really a repressed homosexual who just can’t own up to his true desires. And let’s not acknowledge that the man built his own business, holds a masters degree and was a teacher for years… now he’s not capable of more than “a fraction of a thought”. Why? Because his thoughts don’t match up with yours. Yep… that’s one seriously tolerant attitude you’ve got there.
Never mind the fact that Duck Dynasty’s ratings actually went UP in the weeks after Phil made his comments. Never mind the fact that, as is typical with ANY show of this type, their ratings had already been declining for months prior to his comments as the show had peaked. And never mind the fact that even as the show settles in after peaking, it’s still one of the most popular programs on TV. And let’s not consider that AFTER Phil’s comments, sales of Duck Commander products went through the roof and virtually every poll out there showed overwhelming support for Phil. None of that would actually fit your agenda… so simply make the claim that ratings have fallen because of Phil, call it “game over” and don’t look any further. Build your own little world with your own little facts that support your own little mind and call it a day, right? Sad.
