Not a Natural Disaster: The Los Angeles Fires

Both the Mayor of Los Angeles, Karen Bass, and the Governor of California, Gavin Newsom, are blaming the horrific fires in Southern California human-induced climate change. This is a bogus mantra designed to cover for the gross dereliction of duty employed by a myriad of elected officials at all levels of government in the Golden State.

As mentioned in my last post, the incredibly high winds experienced in Southern California were accurately forecast by the National Weather Service several days before they began. These winds are seasonal, blowing east to west, down the slopes of the nearby mountain ranges and towards the Pacific. As the winds rush down the mountainside, they manifest warm and extremely dry air. This is NOT a feature of so-called climate change. It’s a weather condition that has been around forever.

At this point in time, the only suspected and known cause for these fires is arson.

Now, let me diverge for a moment and speak to a subject I wrote about in my 2012 bestseller, Eco-Tyranny (WND Books).

In 2005, the FBI stated that America’s number one domestic terror threat was eco-terrorism. At that time the concern was focused on two radical environmental organizations, Earth Liberation Front and EarthFirst. Why should we think that such terror concerns would have evaporated since 2005?

In large measure, the leadership of these eco-radical orgs has been able to curry favor with liberal elected leaders and bureaucrats to see their goals accomplished within the construct of government. This is all easily accomplished through the doctrine of Sustainable Development.

Created by the United Nations in the 1983, Sustainable Development requires, as Al Gore has stated, “a wrenching transformation of society.” It seeks the near elimination of fossil fuels, the shuttering of all nuclear power plants, the tearing down of dams (they are declared “unnatural”), and—perhaps more germane to the situation in Los Angeles—moving the population from single family residential housing to stack-and-pack complexes in “Fifteen Minute Cities.”

Driving this Sustainable mentality is something also created by the UN: Social Equity.

Social Equity is not DEI. It declares that all species are equal. In other words, humans are no more important than termites. This is one of the reasons why farmers in the California’s Central Valley (one of the richest agricultural valleys in the world) can no longer get the water they need from the Sacramento-San Joaquin delta. The environmentalists claim that using the water for crops endangers a 3-inch-long fish known as the Delta Smelt. Thousands of acres of farms have gone to weeds as a result of the delta water pouring out to sea.

Social equity also accused the homes on the Malibu coast of endangering the nests of the California Least Tern.

Also, I discovered this from a friend who is a municipal water consultant in California regarding that empty reservoir in Pacific Palisades that was supposed to be under repair: normally such maintenance takes thirty or fewer days. Instead, this critical reservoir had been bone-dry for the past TEN months. Perhaps Sustainable Development is why the elected officials and desk-jockeys in LA County decided it wasn’t a critical piece of infrastructure?

California is the wealthiest state in the nation. It possesses the highest overall tax base. It has the most restrictive environmental rules and regulations. It’s also a one-party state dominated by elected officials who have more in common with Marx than Madison.

You can blame this entire disaster on authoritarian office holders and monolithic public officials, all of whom are overpaid and promised a hefty pension to boot.

And, perhaps the arsonists are radical environmentalists.

A State of Evil

I am in no way, shape or form surprised Gavin Newsome survived the California recall. I shared this publicly on many occasions.

Elections, in my home state, are designed for corruption. It begins with those overseeing the elections county by county. Mail-in ballots, verification of signatures, turning a blind eye to those handing in ballots for others, the phony “poll watcher” positions, and ballot harvesting are all part of the scheme.

My daughter was a poll watcher for the Recall. Every time she saw something suspicious she tried to ask the County worker counting the ballots a question. The first time she asked, the worker said, “I will not answer your questions,” and then told other workers NOT to address my daughter’s concerns. My daughter could ask all the questions she wanted, but NO ONE WOULD GIVE HER AN ANSWER.

California is the most wicked state in the union. OTHER STATES BETTER TAKE NOTE.

From 1983-1999 California actually had moderately conservative Republican governors, and a state house wherein Republicans actually had a voice, Eight years prior to that (1967-1975) Ronald Reagan was t Governor. Forget all that. California has become a one-party rule state and I don’t see that changing.

Following the failed-by-cheating recall, Newsome showed his evil had:

“We said yes to vaccines…We said yes to women’s fundamental constitutional right to decide for herself what she does with her body, her fate, and her future…Economic justice, social justice, racial justice, environmental justice are values where California has made so much progress. All of those things were on the ballot this evening.”

This is why I’ve purchased a home in another state.

Espresso, cell phones, brand new tattoos, and the price of a home

In past commentaries, I’ve illustrated how the cost of housing in California—particularly the San Francisco Bay Area where I live—is beyond out of control. As a homeowner and a guy who manages his own rental properties, I’m especially knowledgeable on the subject and totally understand why so many vehicles with California license plates are pulling into driveways in Texas and other more user-friendly states.

Now a new data point from the California Association of Realtors reveals that the income needed to buy a median-priced single-family home in the 9-counties that make up the Bay Area has nearly doubled in just the last five years! Back in 2012, a minimum annual income of $90,000 was needed to purchase a Bay Area home at the median price of $448,000. Now, based on numbers from the second-quarter of 2017, a homebuyer needs to be bringing in nearly $180,000 to afford a median-priced house because the price has skyrocketed to $895,000!

These figures assume a 20 percent down payment on a 4.09 percent, 30-year fixed loan, and include property taxes and insurance. And what do you get for this kind of money? On average, an older 3-bedroom, 2-bath home under 1900 square feet, on a 50 by 100-foot lot.

In certain Bay Area locations, it’s much worse. In San Francisco County a media home sells for $1.5 million. The next county south, San Mateo, is identically priced. Hippy-dippy Marin County (on the north side of the Golden Gate Bridge) checks in at $1.3 million, and in Santa Clara County (think Google, Apple, Facebook, and the City of San Jose) the median is $1.2 million; slightly lower because of more supply.

So, who’s buying or owning homes in the Bay Area?  According to the report, only 12 percent of buyers in San Francisco can afford a median-priced single-family home. In Santa Clara it’s 17 percent. In the fringe counties of the Bay Area up to 40 percent can afford to purchase a home, but the trade off is an aggravating commute to work and back.

Research also shows that only 13 percent of millennials own a home. This implies that most homeowners have owned their places for quite a while. Those who have owned for nine years or longer are likely sitting on an incredible amount of equity.

Now get ready for the insane liberal solution: guilt the baby boomers into renting their spare bedrooms to millennials. I’m not kidding. A real-estate website, Trulia, crunched U.S. Census data to calculate the number of vacant bedrooms in households headed by people born no later than 1964 (the last year of the baby boomer generation). By identifying the total number of bedrooms, then subtracting the number of inhabitants and one additional bedroom to account for alternate uses such as a home office, Trulia says there are 3.6 million bedrooms vacant in the 100 largest US metro areas. The cure is obvious: rent the rooms to millennials.

Problem is Trulia forgets the fact that we boomers have a social life and like to use those vacant bedrooms for visiting family and friends—not for millennial renters.

Maybe this is a better solution: create a millennial edition of Monopoly where players take Uber rides around the board, eternally pay rent, and never have money to buy anything except pricey espresso drinks, the latest cell phone, and a brand-new tattoo.
