She’s at it again.
Socialist Democrat Congresswoman, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez has once again illustrated her ignorance.
She claims climate change is a “major factor” in the global immigration crisis after stating that the United States would have “blood on our hands” if legislation is not passed to tackle climate change.
“The far-right loves to drum up fear & resistance to immigrants,” the freshman congresswoman tweeted on Tuesday. “But have you ever noticed they never talk about what‘s causing people to flee their homes in the first place? Perhaps that’s bc they’d be forced to confront 1 major factor fueling global migration: Climate change.”
First off, assuming she’s referring to Latin America, the climate is (and always has been) quite variable.
The climate of Latin America ranges from the hot and humid Amazon River basin to the dry and desert-like conditions of northern Mexico and southern Chile. Rain forest, desert, and savanna are all found in this vast region.
The vegetation varies from rain forests, to grasslands, to desert scrub, to tundra. Latin America spans a great distance on each side of the equator and there are dramatic changes in elevation due to the massive mountain ranges. Additionally, the warm currents of the Atlantic Ocean and the cold currents of the Pacific Ocean also impact the climate.
Fertile farmland is plentiful in Latin America, as is ranch land.
