Liberal Religious Leaders Sue Missouri Over Abortion Ban

They are dead wrong.

Thirteen clergy from six faith traditions filed a lawsuit against the State of Missouri on January 19, claiming that the state’s ban on abortion constitutes an imposition of a Christian belief and thus violates the separation of church and state. The clergy members also stressed that the abortion ban violates their religious beliefs.

I will get to a couple quotes from these religious leaders in a moment, but here is what the Missouri ban, House Bill 126, says:

“In recognition that God is the author of life and that Article I, Section 2 of the Constitution of Missouri provides that all persons have a natural right to life, it is the intention of the general assembly of the state of Missouri to [grant]: (1) Defend the right to life [to] of all humans, born and unborn [and to]; (2) Declare that the state and all of its political subdivisions are a ‘sanctuary of life’ that protects pregnant women and their unborn children….”

The bill goes on to state that, “no abortion shall be performed or induced upon a woman, except in cases of medical emergency.”

God bless the people of Missouri and their stand for righteousness.

By enacting the abortion ban, the lawsuit claims that legislators “imposed their preferred religious doctrine on everyone, forcing the citizens and taxpayers of this State to fund the establishment of that doctrine and to obey it regardless of their own faith and beliefs, and irrespective of the resulting grave harms to those seeking abortion care.”

As for the “religious leaders,” they clearly showed their willful ignorance of the Bible.

Rabbi Jim Bennett, head of Congregation Shaare Emerth, Creve Coeur, said, “Deeply rooted in Jewish scripture and tradition is the understanding that the life, safety, and well-being of a mother have priority over that of an unborn fetus. Missouri’s state-sponsored bans on abortion are based on one narrow Christian view of abortion, which is wholly inconsistent with Reform Judaism.”

Rabbi Andrea Goldstein, also with Congregation Shaare Emeth, said, “My faith demands safe, equitable access to all forms of reproductive care, including abortions.”

The Rt. Rev. Deon K. Johnson, Eleventh Bishop of the Episcopal Diocese of Missouri, said, “I believe that abortion, which is based in reason and science, is not incompatible with scripture and is supported by my faith.

Rev. Jan Barnes, with the United Church of Christ, said, “Missouri’s abortion bans legislate a religious view of abortion that is entirely at odds with my religious beliefs and the reproductive counseling I’ve offered as a United Church of Christ minister.”

The Bible does teach that life begins at conception.

Bible aside, the science is clear,  human life begins at the time of conception. From the moment fertilization takes place, a baby’s genetic makeup is already complete. Its gender has already been determined, along with its height and hair, eye and skin color. The only thing the embryo needs to become a fully-functioning being is time in the womb to grow and develop.

God reveals to us in His Word that not only does life begin at conception, but He knows who we are even before then. The Jewish scriptures (Old Testament)  state, “Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, And before you were born I consecrated you (Jeremiah 1:5).

In a prayer, King David said this about God’s role in our conception: “For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb . . . your eyes saw my unformed body. All the days ordained for me were written in your book before one of them came to be,’ (Psalm 139:13, 16).

Everyone is entitled to their own beliefs, but when churches and synagogues spout religious nonsense that is contrary to their own founding documents (the Bible), someone needs to call them out.

California’s Proposition 1: Abortion Through Nine Months

California. The state of my birth. It’s where my wife (also a native born Californian) and I were married. Our four children were all born in California. Most of my TV career and all of my radio career were accomplished in California.

In terms of geography, California is arguably the most beautiful state in the Union. The 840 mile coastline is jaw-dropping. The Sierra Nevada Mountains are wondrous. The weather provides variety unsurpassed in any state.

However, leftist politicians, who essentially run the state unopposed, have unleashed pure evil in the form of a Ballot measure to be voted on  in November.

Proposition 1.

As you are aware, back in June, the Supreme Court issued its opinion in Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization, which overturned Roe v. Wade and returned the issue of abortion to the states. The California state legislature then voted by greater-than-two-thirds majorities in both of its houses to place a constitutional amendment on the state’s November ballot.

Proposition 1, as it is called, states the following: “The state shall not deny or interfere with an individual’s reproductive freedom in their most intimate decisions, which includes their fundamental right to choose to have an abortion and their fundamental right to choose or refuse contraceptives. This section is intended to further the constitutional right to privacy guaranteed by Section 1, and the constitutional right to not be denied equal protection guaranteed by Section 7. Nothing herein narrows or limits the right to privacy or equal protection.”

Nor does anything in the language of this proposed constitutional amendment limit abortion itself. It does not include, for example, an age limit on when an unborn child can be terminated. It states instead, as noted, that the “state shall not deny or interfere with an individual’s reproductive freedom … which includes their fundamental right to choose to have an abortion.”

In other words, this is abortion through 9-months.

The atheist communists who run the legislature tried something even worse earlier this year, which included killing a baby outside of the womb. I wrote about it, and lots of people did not believe what I was saying was true.  It was true!

That horrid plan, in my opinion, will be their next goal.

Is it any wonder I’m now a resident of another state?

And they skipped over Roe…

For the past 50 years some of have been praying that Roe v Wade would be, somehow, overturned.  My wife and I have been praying that prayer for at least 40 years.

It’s happened.

Amazing how many Christian churches purposefully decided not to talk about it on this Sunday following the monumental decision.

Was it a fear of offending certain members or people attending their congregation? Fear of losing attendees? Fear of reduced tithes and offerings?

Maybe I’m missing something or being too judgmental.

God have mercy.

Latest Talking Point: Pro-Life, or just Pro-Birth?

“If you are really pro-life you must be ready to care for those spared from abortion from ‘the womb to the tomb.’ Otherwise, you’re pro-birth, not pro-life.”

What an ignorant statement. Yet this is the new talking point from liberal Christians regarding America, post Roe v. Wade.

Most of us, they say, are just “pro-birth,” not “pro-life.”

The abortion rate in America is high because of sin and self. The vast majority of women getting an abortion are not married;  most of those are likely women are living at or near poverty levels and are receiving streams of welfare benefits.  Those who are married and seek an abortion usually do so because of selfish ambition (timing or finances).

Let me stop right there and say this: Jesus is able to totally forgive a woman for her abortion. I have plenty of friends who had abortions and have since repented of their decision. In the eyes of God, it’s over and done with.

So let’s say a woman decides against abortion and chooses adoption instead. When adoption is employed in such cases of pregnancy, the child is virtually guaranteed a life outside of poverty and welfare. In other words, adoption breaks the chain of poverty because the adopting parents are qualified to adopt, in-part, because of a decent financial situation.  However, the liberal Christian contends that if the mother decides to keep her baby then we as a society must roll up our sleeves and be ready to aid in the heavy lifting of raising that child to adulthood and ensuring their success.

Other than government programs involving welfare, I really don’t know what these people are suggesting. Once the child hits 18, I’m guessing these do-gooders envision further government/charitable social programs that promote “equitable outcomes” (free college, free rent, free food, job training, and more welfare bucks). Giveaway and handouts generally produce slothful behavior and a further entitlement mentality.

This is not compassion, it’s communism. And it will certainly not break the chains of poverty, but only exacerbate them. In fact, I contend the leftist politicians prefer this plan as it safeguards a reliable voting block. In fact, destination abortion states are basically going to further this cycle.

If churches were to get involved in this effort, I would say the best thing you could do is provide mentors and discipleship teams to grow these individuals up into solid men and women of God who are following their God-given calling. Many, many churches already do this. Certainly, I’ve seen some fruit in this over the years with young men I’ve spent time with. However, my mission is not to aid and abet those in poverty with handouts. I hope you agree.

By the way, on a side note, I know it’s nearly impossible for liberal Christians to believe this, but people really do climb out of poverty all this time. Most do it by getting married, sharing the expenses of a household, shunning welfare, working hard, getting good advice, and playing by the rules. Even people in minority groups progress to the next rung. Happens all the time.

In fact, I personally contend (again, personally) it’s easier to get out of poverty and into the middle class than it is to advance from the middle class to the upper (immense wealth that can be passed from one generation to the next). Those who make that big leap must: have a skill or talent that has proven to be a great source of income, work round the clock, manage their money extremely well, take risks, and rebound from the valleys they encounter along the way. Yes, there are some lucky folks who life’s lottery (sports stars and Silicon Valley stock options included), but even these lottery winners have to manage their finances well to be certifiable upper crust. Liberals would say the deck is stacked against minorities in making this leap, but I would counter by saying most (99 percent?) white people who try make the leap fall short.

As for me and my house: I’ve done what I can do: I co-founded an adoption advocacy group back-in-the-day (Brian’s Kids) that aided in over 400 children getting out of foster care and into adoptive families. The poverty cycle was broken for those kids (now adults). My wife and I also adopted three kids. They are all doing fine (and vote conservative too, I might add). One even decided to break the chain for a young woman who gave birth after years filled with drugs and homelessness. Now my little granddaughter has a chance to advance without government welfare and in an environment filled with the love of Jesus.

Pro-life. All the more possible without Roe.

Anti Pro-Life Protests: “One of the scariest things I’ve ever witnessed”

Douglas Blair, a news editor for The Daily Signal, said the anti pro-life protests outside Supreme Court Justice Kavanaugh’s home were “one of the scariest things” he’s ever witnessed.

Blair was on “Fox & Friends” Monday this morning.  He called the protests an “attempt at intimidation” and pointed out the Biden administrations failure to condemn the demonstrations.

Said Blair, “I did not see Justice Kavanaugh. My hope is that he wasn’t home. My hope is that he was safe with his family somewhere else because it was genuinely one of the scariest things I’ve ever witnessed. Watching these people yell and scream and try and change the vote of what is most possibly the most important vote in the history of this country: the right to live your life and to have a human being survive in the womb.”

Trust me friends, I’ve seen these wild leftist mobs in action as well. The first time it was chilling. The hatred was palpable. I honestly felt that the protestors were demon possessed. That’s not an exaggeration.

It’s time to stand in prayer against these forces of evil. If you are called of the Holy Spirit to counter-protest do so covered in the “armor of God” as described in the New Testament book of Ephesians 6:10-18 –

10 Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. 11 Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes. 12 For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. 13 Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand. 14 Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, 15 and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. 16 In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. 17 Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God. 18 And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the Lord’s people.
